Small Parcels, Big Changes at Corbett Logistics By Henry Osei

ASHFORD (14 March) - When Corbett Logistics opened its first warehouse in Ashford in 1998, most of its customers were furniture makers shipping large orders to stores. Today, more than half of the packages it handles are small parcels sent directly to shoppers' homes.

To keep up, the company has spent the past two years redesigning its main facility on Dalton Road. Conveyor belts now carry parcels past cameras that read labels automatically, and a new sorting area can process 12,000 items an hour, three times as many as before.

The changes have also affected staff. "We used to need people who could lift heavy boxes all day," said operations director Felicity Grange. "Now we need people who can manage the software that runs the machines." The company has partnered with Ashford Technical College to offer a twelve-week course in warehouse automation, and 35 current employees have already completed it.

Corbett plans to open a second facility near Brayton Airport next year. It will focus on overnight deliveries for online retailers.

Fairmont City Museum Extends Evening Hours

FAIRMONT (2 May) - Starting in June, the Fairmont City Museum will stay open until 9 P.M. every Thursday and Friday, instead of closing at 5 P.M. The decision follows a survey of more than 1,500 residents, many of whom said they could not visit during working hours.

The evening openings will include short talks by curators, live music in the central courtyard, and a reduced admission price of $8, compared with the usual $14. The museum café will also stay open late and offer a light dinner menu.

"Last summer, we tried opening late on just four Fridays, and attendance on those nights was almost double what we see on a typical weekday afternoon," said museum director Paolo Reyes. "That told us there was real demand."

    • The museum closed for renovations.
    • Late openings were very popular.

To: orders@basilbarley.com From: Felix Grant Date: 15 November Subject: Yesterday's lunch

Hello,

Thank you for the lunch your team delivered yesterday. The food was excellent, and several of my colleagues have asked for your menu.

However, I want to mention two things. First, the delivery arrived at 12:40, forty minutes late, and our meeting had already started. Second, none of the dishes were labeled, even though I had asked for this on the order form. Fortunately, the driver was able to tell us which dish contained nuts.

We are planning another lunch next month and would like to order from you again, but I would appreciate it if you could make sure these problems do not happen again.

Hi Rafael,

The billing software should be working again for everyone in your department. The problem was caused by an update to the license server that was installed over the weekend. We have reversed the update, and we will test it again before reinstalling it.

In the future, if your whole department cannot work, please call extension 4000 as well as submitting a ticket. That way, we can respond even faster.

Also, I noticed that you asked last month about getting a second monitor. That request has been approved, and someone will deliver it to your desk on Wednesday.

Best, Nadia

TEXT 3: ONLINE REVIEW

Posted by: Jonas Weber, 21 October Rating: 4 out of 5

My two daughters and I went to "Night of the Planets" on Saturday, and we had a wonderful time. The planetarium show was the highlight for the girls, and Dr. Boateng's talk was fascinating, although the auditorium was so full that we had to stand at the back. Unfortunately, it was cloudy, so we couldn't see anything through the telescopes. Getting home was easy, though. We left the museum at about 10:30, and a tram came almost right away. My only suggestion: the museum should use a bigger room for the talk next year.

  1. What is indicated about "Night of the Planets"?
    • It takes place over two days.
    • It is free for all children.
    • It ends at midnight.
    • It includes a presentation by an astronaut.
  2. What is suggested about the rooftop activity on 19 October?
    • It was canceled because of track work.
    • It was affected by the weather.
    • It required an extra ticket.
    • It was only for museum members.
  3. How often were Line 7 trams most likely running when Mr. Weber left the museum?
    • Every 10 minutes
    • Every 15 minutes
    • Every 30 minutes
    • Every hour
  4. What is stated about Line 7 on 19 October?
    • It skipped one of its usual stops.
    • It ran only until 10 P.M.
    • It was replaced by Line 3.
    • It did not stop at the museum.
  5. What does Mr. Weber suggest?
    • Adding more telescopes
    • Holding the talk in a larger space
    • Lowering ticket prices
    • Running more trams
