Small Town, Big Coffee By Meera Joshi

FAIRVIEW: When Tomas and Lena Brandt opened Ridgeline Roasters in a former fire station in 2019, many residents doubted that a town of 8,000 people needed its own coffee roaster. Five years later, the company sells its beans to more than 60 cafés and grocery stores across the region.

The Brandts credit much of their success to their decision to buy beans directly from small farms in Colombia and Ethiopia. "We pay more than the market price, but we know exactly where our coffee comes from," said Lena Brandt. Customers seem to value this: sales grew by 35 percent last year.

Customer Reviews: AeroBrew 300 Coffee Maker Rating: 3 out of 5 Reviewed by Marcus Feld, 12 February

I bought the AeroBrew 300 for our small office of eight people about a month ago. The coffee tastes great, and the machine heats up in under two minutes, which is faster than our old one. My main complaint is the water tank. It only holds 1.2 liters, so someone has to refill it four or five times a day. Also, the instruction booklet says the machine has an automatic shut-off, but I could not find out how to turn it on. Overall, it's a good machine for a home, but maybe not for an office.

RESPONSE

Response from AeroBrew Customer Care, 14 February

Dear Mr. Feld,

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoy the taste of our coffee. Regarding the automatic shut-off: this feature is turned on by holding the power button for five seconds. We apologize that this was not clear, and we are updating the booklet.

For an office of your size, you may prefer our AeroBrew 500, which has a 3-liter tank. As a thank-you for your feedback, we would like to offer you 25 percent off an AeroBrew 500. If you're interested, please contact us at care@aerobrew.com with your order number, and we will also arrange the return of your current machine for a full refund.

  1. What does Mr. Feld like about the AeroBrew 300?
    • It is inexpensive.
    • Its instructions are clear.
    • It has a large water tank.
    • It heats up quickly.
  2. What does Mr. Feld suggest about the AeroBrew 300?
    • It is better suited to home use.
    • It is too expensive for most offices.
    • It stopped working after a month.
    • It makes coffee too slowly.
  3. What does the response explain?
    • Where to buy replacement parts
    • How to turn on a feature
    • Why the price has changed
    • How to clean the machine
  4. Why does AeroBrew most likely recommend the AeroBrew 500 to Mr. Feld?
    • It has a simpler instruction booklet.
    • It costs less than the AeroBrew 300.
    • It would need to be refilled less often.
    • It heats up faster than the AeroBrew 300.
  5. What must Mr. Feld provide to receive the discount?
    • A new online review
    • A copy of his receipt by mail
    • His order number
    • A photo of his machine

To: Diego Marín From: Fatima Osei, Community Relations Date: 3 June Subject: Volunteer Day

Hi Diego,

Thanks for signing up. Although the deadline has passed, we still have space, so your registration has been accepted. Unfortunately, the school project is now full, as the principal asked us to limit the number of volunteers to twenty. I've placed you and your son on the tree-planting project instead, which still has plenty of room. If you would prefer the food bank, just let me know by Friday.

You'll receive your T-shirt at the start of the day.

Best, Fatima
